Description
Pigeon Point Lighthouse
Halfway between Halfmoon Bay And Santa Cruz is where you will find this magnificent lighthouse. The light was built in 1872 and is 115 feet tall. It gets it's name from the Carrier Pigeon that wrecked there in 1853.
I can't count how many times I had driven past this treasure as I cruised down Hwy. 1 down to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
As I aged I started to take the time to visit the coast in more depth. The surrounding area is a great place to explore with beaches and tide pools and dunes to climb on.
They have been working on restoring this light for 20 years now and I wonder when the work will be completed.
