Description
This shot was captured during a break in a winter snow storm in Yosemite Valley. It had snowed most of the night and was still snowing when I awoke. We were in Yosemite Valley to try to capture the beautiful fire fall shot that is only available for roughly a week in February. Several factors have to be in place in order to get a successful capture of the fire fall. There needs to be snow on the ground, the sun has to be shinning, and it needs to be warm enough for Horsetail Falls to flow. We had one out of three.
Back to the Chapel. The Chapel is the oldest building in Yosemite Valley being built in 1879. It's original location was the "Lower Valley" but was moved to it's current location in 1901.
The chapel was restored in 1965 with it's foundation being raised in response to the 1964 flood. It was again damaged during the 1997 floods and has since been repaired. The chapel was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in December of 1973.
During the summer season one can see that the chapel has a continous flow of people arriving and departing weddings. Wedding dates can be reserved 13 months in advance.
During the summer, Sunday services are held at 9:15 and 11:00 am. The service is non-denominational and all are welcome. During the winter only the 9:15 service is held.

A great catch and iconic scene. Seems like many others admire it as well. What a day to be out, but so worth this scene. L
