Description
Gambling House
When I see this image I can't help but think of the 70's Deep Purple song, "Smoke On The Water" and the line "they burned down the gambling house.
I came across this place while touring the historical town of Locke California. Locke is la small unincorporated town located in what the locals call The Delta. "The Delta" refers to the Sacramento-San Jaquin River Delta located in central California.
Locke is 10 acre town first developed in the late 1800's and was settled primarily by Chinese immigrants. Back in those times Locke had a number of gambling houses and opium dens along with some other colorful businesses.
There is so much history in this little town it is well worth the time to walk around and visit all of the old structures and you can even stop at the Italian Restaurant "Al the WOPS" for a drink and some excellent food.
