Description
Mesquite Dunes Black and White
A trip to Death Valley National Park just doesn't seem to be complete if I don't hike the Mesquite Sand Dunes. Mesquite Sand Dunes is the largest and most accessible sand dune in Death Valley. They are located just east of Stovepipe Wells.
The round trip hike out to the largest/tallest dune (pictured here) is a 2 mile out and back and takes about an hour and a half. This image was captured about halfway to the big dune, if you look carefully, you can see other hikers up on the ridges. Keep in mind that the hike is in sand and seems to be twice as far as it actually is because of this.
I have a tendency to wander around these dunes, so my normal hike is much longer and further than those that just do the out and back hike. Either way, it's a fun hike well worth the time.
