Description
The Grand Hotel,
When traveling to the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island it seems as if you are about to step back in time roughly 125 years or so. The hotel was finished towards the end of the 19th Century and little has changed since then.
Arriving on Mackinaw Island via ferry boat you are picked up at the dock in a horse drawn carriage. This carriage will then take you the short distance from the docks up to the fabulous entrance to the hotel shown here.
The patio (pictured here) of the Grand Hotel is said to be the longest in the world at 660 feet. From here you can sit and enjoy the view of Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinaw or you can explore the Islands many attractions.
The hotel is casual during the day time but does have a dress code that must be adhered to. Sweatpants and cutoff shorts are not allowed at any time. At night the ladies are expected to wear dresses, skirts, blouses, dress sweaters and dress slacks. The men are expected to wear a suit coat, necktie and dress pants.
The rooms are well appointed and no tipping is allowed throughout most of the hotel
