Description
Rainbow Falls.
On the far side of the Sierra Nevadas, that's the east side for those who know me, is the town of Mammoth California. Not far from the town of Mammoth is a couple of geological features that actually at one time were a part of Yosemite National Park. Somewhere back in time the park boundaries changed and these features were left out of the park. These features are the Devils Post Pile and another is Rainbow Falls.
In order to get to the falls a person must hike a few miles over relatively flat trails for a mountain hike. Devils Post Pile is a fairly close hike from the parking lot. To get to Rainbow Falls adds another roughly 2-3 miles both ways.
The falls are located on the San Joaquin River. I captured this right around mid day and the sky was fairly flat so I framed the photo tightly and shot it in black and white to emphasis the details in the rocks and the water.
