Description
I love sitting on the banks of the Merced River in Yosemite National Park and just watch the water flow by. The water itself can by hypnotizing with the sun sparkling on the rolling water as it passes over the many boulders and rocks below the surface. Depending on the time of day and the positioning of the sun the water can look clear with a golden tint or green with a spark of blue. An occasional trout will jump breaking the waters surface or one of the many bird species may sweep down to the rivers edge to look for the days meal.
From this point of view as can be seen here, El Capitan stands in all its glory rising 3,000 feet above the valley floor. The gray granite seems to dominate the valley floor and from this perspective it does. But the river that cuts through the valley will lead you to many other places that try to also compete in this breathtaking scenery.
Almost directly across from this vantage point is Bridalveil Falls. Bridalveail Falls drops over 600 feet from the precipice to the valley floors where the water hits the rocks below and creates a large mist that in the spring time can only be approached by those willing to be drenched by the freezing water that may have been snow only hours before.
Around the bend in the river past El Capitan you have Yosemite Falls and Half Dome. Further up the valley yet you have Glacier Point, Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls all competing in this magnificent outdoor playground known as Yosemite Valley.
