Ward Charcoal Ovens
The Ward Charcoal Ovens are located a few miles outside of Ely, Nevada. These beehive looking ovens were built back in the 1870 to create charcoal for the local smelters for smelting silver.
Each oven could 35 cords of lumber that was harvested from the area. The 35 cords of wood took 6 acres of land to produce. Each cord would produce 50 bushels of coal after 12 days in the oven. All the ovens combined could create 10,500 bushels in 12 days.
