Description
Mt Whitney And The Eastern Sierras
Driving Hwy. 395 along the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada's is one of my all time favorite drives. Normally I pick up this Hwy. in either Reno or Carson City Nevada, depending on road conditions.
Once the highway drops back into California, the views seem to be near non-stop from Bridgeport all the way down to Lone Pine. As you drive from the north you will pass the ghost town of Bodie, Mono Lake, Lee Vining (the eastern gateway to Yosemite), Mammoth Lakes, and the backside of Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park.
This image was captured as a storm was pushing up the western flank of the mountain. This is the backside of Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park with Mt. Whitney over to the right.
