Artist's Description
One of my favorite drives on the edge of my local stomping grounds is the drive from Sonoma to Santa Rosa through the Valley of the Moon. Some say the Valley of the Moon is Sonoma Valley and maybe they are right. I consider it the Northern part of Sonoma Valley starting just north of the city of Sonoma. Either way, it's a beautiful area filled with small shops in small towns with many wineries and vineyards along the highway.
It had been awhile since I made this drive and I really wanted to get up there.
This image was taken during the middle of winter here in Northern California. We had a cold snap that had left a layer of frost on the ground for a few days and I really wanted to capture it as this is about as close as we will ever get to having snow on the ground. I drove up in the early morning to catch the day before the sun had started warming the ground.
I caught this just south of Highway 12 as the sun was coming up.
