Filoli,
The Filoli house is located Woodside about a half hour south of San Francisco. The home was built between 1915 and 1917 by the Born Family.
Filoli is an acronym for William Bourn's saying of Fight for a just cause, Love your fellow man, Live a good life.
The home currently sits on a 16 acre formal garden within a 654 acre estate.
When the Bourns had passed the home was sold to the Roth family. Lurline Matson Roth was the heiress to the Matson Navigation Company. The company is most recognized as the Matson Line.
In 1975 the home was donated to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The home and garden are open for tours most of the year but is probably best seen in the early spring when the garden is in full bloom with the thousands of tulips planted fresh every year.
