Description
This photo was taken in Mid-Winter in Yosemite Valley. One of my favorite times to be in the valley
This was taken from the swinging bridge that crosses the Merced River south of Yosemite Falls.
Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall measured in North America. From top to bottom it measures 2, 425 feet. The upper portion of the falls, the Upper Falls as seen here has a drop of 1, 430 ft.
During the winter time visitors will find the beard of Yosemite Falls around the waterfall created by the water freezing against the valley walls overnight.
During the daytime the beard melts off anf the waterfall picks up volume as the snow in higher elevations start to melt.
This also marks the start of the Merced River. during the late winter and spring the Merced River flows quickly through the upper portions of Yosemite Valley. As the year moves on and the snow runoff decreases the river slows. Come Jul and August it's not uncommon to find people swimming in the river. The river also supports fishing, kayaking and canoeing.
On this particular day the winds were calm and the river had a nice mirror quality to it. The reflections are nearly as sharp as the true image.
This image was captured using HDR technology to give a full range of Dynamic Range that most camera's can't reproduce.
