A little back story on this photo. I flew into Salt Lake city from the west. As we were flying in we passed over some clouds just out of Salt Lake but the sky was clear on landing. By the time I picked up my luggage and found the transport to the ski resort a light dusting of snow began to fall.
Outside of Salt Lake city and up into Little Cotton Wood Canyon the snow started really coming down. Pictures of waist deep powder kept flashing in my mind. By the time we made it up to Snowbird the snow was coming down so hard that you could hardly see 10 feet in front of you. Perfect right?
Well it snowed so hard that avalanche control was firing off mortars all night long. It was difficult to sleep with all the noise. The next morning there was so much snow that they delayed opening the resort for a couple of hours and when they did they only opened the lower portion of the mountain. We had a fantastic day of skiing with powder chest deep. Yet the snow kept coming down.
It took two days for the snow to stop falling and they finally opened up the upper part of the mountain. We spent the morning skiing the front side of the mountain but eventually found our way around to the back side of the mountain as the clouds were breaking up. I set this shot up from just below the chair lift looking east. I'm not exactly sure of the name of these peaks but from looking at google maps/earth I suspect that these are called the twin peaks.
