Description
Rhine House at Beringer Estates.
Beringer Winery became one of the first Wineries in California when it was founded in 1875 when brothers Jacob and Frederick purchased 215 acres of land in the Napa Valley. They oversaw the first harvest and crush in 1876 producing 40,000 gallons of wine.
The Rhine House was designed by architect Albert Schroepfer and was completed in 1884 at a cost of $28,000 including $6,000 in stained glass panels.
The winery was able to survive prohibition due to a law that allowed wine for sacrificial religious practices and since then has continued to grow and prosper.
In 2001 Beringer celebrated it's 125th anniversary and is now the oldest continuously operated winery in Napa valley.
Beringer offers wine for any occasion ranging from their Modern Heritage Series through their Private Reserve. The Private Reserve is made only from single vineyard grapes of the highest quality with special care given by the winemaker to produce top quality wines.
Beringer does offer tours but there are cost associated with the tours and range from $30 per person to $45 per person.
They also offer tasting and different wine pairings including, wine and food pairing, wine and chocolate pairing, and wine and cheese pairings.
