Description
This image, to me and many of my other phototgraphs of California are what I call my California. My California is not what is broadcast across the country and in some cases the world. My California is not the glamour, the sunny beaches, the movie stars.
My California is mainly about the West, the open country, the rugged mountains and the rugged coast. My California is about real places and yes they are places that you see and hear about in books and brochures but it's also mainly about the rural country not the large cities.
This image is typical of my California. This is a capture of a working fishing boat docked in Noyo Harbor in Ft BRagg California. Ft BRag is roughly 3-1/2 hours north of San Francisco and may as well be in another world. This is an area that started out as a lumber town, the town was owned basically by the lumber company. Once most of the redwoods in the area were cut down the area morphed into a fishing village. Noyo Harbor offers easy access to shelter from the storms that roll across the Pacific during the hard winter. As the Salmon Population dwindled and government restrictions tightened up on the fishing industry Fort Bragg once again morphed.
Now the town attracts many tourist as they drive up the coast. The town offers comfortable lodging and many restaurants along with many easily accessible beaches.
On a plus note, due to conservation efforts the fishing industry is atarting to make a comeback.
