Description
Avalanche II.
So as the title suggest this is the 2nd image in a series of avalanches. Just kidding, the series starts with Cornice Blast.
Cornice Blast shows how this event got started. Avalanche 1 show the run of snow midway over the face of the cliff here. Now Avalanche II shows the avalanche touching down once again as it moves toward the main traverse and easiest way down the mountain at Snowbird.
What isn't really captured is the speed at which this all takes place. At the time I captured this I had an entry level digital SLR that shot 3 and 1/2 frames per second. To give you an idea on speed go back to Avalanche 1 and you can see where this was 1/3 of a second prior.
Avalanches are a constant threat to skiers in western resorts and the ski patrol does a tremendous job working to keep the public safe.
