Description
Avalanche I.
One of my passions that I have had since I was a young boy has been skiing. I learned on the small hills in the Midwest but have been skiing the Sierras and the Rocky Mountains for the last 35 years.
Over those years I have heard of avalanches and had ben fortunate enough not to ever be caught up in one. One of the reasons for this is the due diligence of the ski patrol and their concern for skier safety.
On a trip out to Snowbird in Utah a few years ago we were greeted with over 4 feet of fresh powder that dumped overnight. There was actually so much snow that they delayed the opening of the mountain a couple of hours and when they finally opened it they only opened the lower sections.
The following day we were able to take a lift all the way to the summit. Looking across the mountain from the summit the ski patrol had set up charges and had blown a section of a cornice. I shot a series from this blast and this is one I call Avalanche 1.
