Firefall.
Firefall is a relative newly discovered phenomenon discovered in Yosemite National Park not to be confused with the old firefall that was manmade.
The old one goes back to the days when they would build a large bonfire at the top of glacier point. After sunset they would push the glowing embers over the side so that they fell to the valley.
I don't know exactly who or when this was discovered but I do recall it was in the early eighties that this started getting noticed. The waterfall itself only pulls water from a 30 acre drainage. In order for the firefall effect to take place a number of things need to align just right.
The sun needs to be in the proper position, this only occurs in Mid-February. There must be snow in the high country, it must be warm enough during the day to melt the snow, and lastly the clouds must stay clear.
I've been to Yosemite on 8 different occasions trying to capture this and have been skunked 7 times. This year everything finall...
