Description
This picture was taken on one of those magical fall days that you just have no idea what is going to happen or where it might happen. I was on a business trip and had to drive up to southern Oregon.
I left early in the morning from the Bay Area on an October morning. Now in Northern California the weather can be very unstable going from summer to winter in a days time. This happened to be one of those days. On the way up to Oregon the sun was shinning and it was very warm. I left Oregon right after lunch and started back down to the Bay Area. As I crossed the state line and drove south on I-5 I could see Mount Shasta in the distance. As I approached the clouds started circling the peak and I new that I would have to stop and capture this. I pulled of the highway at a rest stop and was able to capture this image.
This was the beginning of winter. As I drove over the pass the clouds pictured here started producing the rain that you would image coming from clouds such as these. A California highway patrolman came up from behind so I slowed. Once he passed me I tried to maintain an even pace with him. The road over the pass began to freeze up and the back of my truck was starting to slide out and I slowed even further and the highway patrolman was lost to me.
Mt Shasta is one of many volcanic peaks in California and is at the southern end of the Cascade Range. At 14, 179 feet it is also the second highest peak in the cascade range.
