Description
Playland Clown
I never had the pleasure of visiting Playland at the Beach as it had closed a number of years before I made my move out west. I did however just visit a museum dedicated to Playland at the Beach called sensibly enough, Playland Not at the Beach. This clown face hung on the wall in the museum and looked terrifically creepy.
Playland was located near the Golden Gate Bridge and the Sutro Baths in San Francisco. It was a large amusement park that closed in the 70's. One of the parks big themes was clowns, the most famous being Laughing Sal who's laugh could be heard for blocks I am told. The park had roller coasters and other rides, an arcade, and a large building with multiple slot car tracks.
