Description
This is an image of the new Benicia Bridge. This bridge was built just down the street of my place of employment. So I was able to witness the slow progress of modern day bridge building.
Between all of the government regulations and oversight it took years before they even started construction. Once started there were numerous delays and lawsuits. One of the lawsuits halted the pile driving for many months as it was suggested that the concussion from the pile driving was killing fish. Perhaps it was, who knows. The eventual solution was to wait for the Salmon run to finish its course and then put underwater curtains around the pilings.
I think the thing that maybe upset me the most was the fact that a large part of the construction took place in China. The Chinese would build sections of the bridge, float them across the Pacific, and then lift them into place. I can only think of how many American jobs were eliminated by this.
On this particular day I was on my way into work and noticed the incredible lighting on the bridge. I couldn't help but want to shoot some pictures. I had to set up in the bed of my pick-up truck to get above the fence surrounding the yard at work.
Since I originally posted this image I have updated the final output to reflect a new edit that I prefer over the older image.
