Description
The Blue Angels until recently have visited the city of San Francisco on an annual basis during what is known as Fleet Week. Fleet Week at one point was a celebration for the Navy and the sailors as they visited various cities around the country. The Navy would pull into port and open up their ships to the public and use the event as a huge public relations tool.
One of the highlights of the week was the precision flying team of the Navy Blue Angels. The Blue Angels put on a high speed areal acrobatic show that was second to none. They would fly in over the Golden Gate Bridge and proceed to dazzle the audiences with precision stunts that was second to none.
In order to fly in the Blue Angels an officer must have a minimum of 1,250 tactical-jet flight hours. The lead officer or Boss requires 3,000 hours.
They fly 6, FA-18's and at points flirt with the sound barrier. One of the most exiting parts of the show is when one of the jets flies low enough over the bay to actually kick up a rooster tail of water.
