Description
Avalanche IV.
Avalanche IV is actually now the fifth and last in a series of images that I captured skiing at Snowbird out in Utah.
Taken from the top of Snowbird I captured this sequence starting from the cornice blast to this concluding image.
This final image is one of my favorite from this sequence as it shows some scale to the whole event.
On the lower left is the last groomed run on the edge of the resorts boundary. if you look at the ridge next to the groomed trail you can see ski tracks from people that have gone off over the edge and left tracks at the lower edge of the avalanche.
The pine trees bottom center are full grown mature pine trees that are roughly 30 to 40 feet tall.
This is where the avalanche came to a rest after roaring down the mountain. I suspect that if it had crested the ridge near the trees it may have picked up steam once again.
